Custom Feed Mix
Find a base feed mix that is NOT one with corn for its protein. Recently relocated south an used two products that were enough to give a silkie breeder nightmares Durma or Purina, talk about red brown runs for poop, pens just stunk to high heaven, staining on feet, butts an anywhere else the poop touched, UGH. Both based on corn an was the feed ever yellow! Purina also uses Marigold on top of the corn protein for a filler which if you own white birds with gold genes an not silver genes will turn your bird YELLOW over time, lol
So we found Kent High Flyer line at our local store an I now have the right color feed, firm perfect colored POOP just like ya want. Pens smell normal an birds are happier! This product has Vit. E & Sel, as well as B12 in the feed along with a number of other supl., but these are three things silkies need in there feed to thrive better.
Now on to the mix I currently use, which was based off of a old silkie club SEBA that had a website up with lots of great info on it. You can always tweek it to your own preferences, this is just what works for me. Not all stores will carry everything and you may have to mix it yourself if you are unwilling to buy per the ton.
Base starter crumble of at least 28%
Base egg crumble of 16%
Rolled Barley
Oat Groats
Whole Safflower
Whole Wheat
Kelp
Brewers Yeast
Sunflower chips
I also ad in red cell, calf manna Poultry Supl., Vit E & Sel, and a oil, I use Healthy Coat.

Soft Food Diet/Treat
George Mihalik developed this in his breeding program many years ago an anyone who visited an bought stock from him was taught how to make it. It makes for healthy fat babies & great treats for the older stock!
