New to Silkies?
My personal experience is when people buy from too many people from across
the country they can get issues, birds develop a tolerance to there area, take
them out of it an you expose that same bird to a different strain an you can
lose them, Mareks alone has many different strains, what is on the east coast
is not what is in the midwest, even when you vaccinate for it (personal exp.
years ago with vac. chicks from Hattrick, not their fault that the MN strain
was different so when the chicks arrived I lost 2 out of 6 chicks to it). If
you are buying from only a few good breeders every so often it is by far
better, less in the mix. The east coast had issues with LT a while ago and I
cringed at people buying stock an shipping it all over the country. Some
breeders are more hatchery and more about money, some have poor environments
for their stock an poor management practices. I am an exhibition breeder &
a state tester in MN, WI, MI who has my NPIP status, so I
am not some backyard breeder looking to make a buck, lol
I spend a ton of money each year on meds, special feed,
worming/bug control, proper housing/clean pens, fresh water, they
get bathes, nails & beak trims, and I keep them comfortable for temps. They
have hollow bones, no sweat glands and cannot regulate their temps. So you need
to do it for them with fans, misting, ac in heat, or heaters/heat lamps for
winter months.
Silkies are not easy to care for, they are work and show stock is not like
hatchery stock to be let run around the yard. They are fluffy, cute, and have
to be watched as they are dumber than a box of rocks, lol They get issues with
mites, cocci, and if hit on the head where the brain is exposed under the skin
can get crippled or die. Do your research on the breed, you have to really love
them to care for them and most new owners blame the breeders for their failings
in the care of the stock they get. Chickens in general develop in 21 days and
no matter what they are they were designed to be eaten or produce eggs, not a
long life as a pet. With that it is more about numbers when breeding because
everyone looses some to health issues from cancer, liver an kidney failure, and
even scoliosis pops up in them. After years of breeding them I roll with it
because I know an love the breed, so if you can take the heartache of loss an
know you cannot control everything at times, just do the best you can, than go
for it. I LOVE SILKIES !!!
And even after years of owning/breeding them they are so worth the trouble to me!

Sale of Premier Silkies Stock!
We do not sell eggs , nor do we take orders. As we are not a hatchery and are exhibition breeders who bred to the APA standard for ourselves.
As quality varies in the eye of every beholder we rate are birds as pet (sold local swaps & the asian market), breeders (birds that have defects but can still produce quality stock), and show quality (birds that are to standard, can be shown).
As breeders we will have extra stock through out the year that we will sell off here on our website, facebook page, and in online auctions!
All birds are prepaid, no refunds or exchanges unless I cannot deliver the bird you purchased. We do ship as weather allows and delivery to shows we are attending. For live pick up I can meet you at a local gas station, we do not allow visitors to the farm for the health of the flock & their security.
I do not sell outside of the US. For many years our flock was part of the MN NPIP program, but due to their sharing personal information to the public we stock for a few years as I am a state tester in MN, WI, and MI. Due to our relocation to the south and to a state that is very pro breeders I am now back on the NPIP program without having my personal information made public! Love it !
The buttons below are set up for paypal instant purchase of the stock, box & shipping will be extra. Fees for shipping vary by size/cost of box needed, size/weight of bird(s) and the distance they travel via USPS 2 day express mail. All birds ship only in temps good at both ends, & with fruit & grains.
