AOV Paint Project

Breeders & Youngstock 2011 F1 Pics

Notes 2011

We purchased two Dutch bred solid cockerels in late 2010 from Jerry in LA, we only kept the red pyle male "flame" . Also in Dec. 2010 we traded a show quality black trio for a trio of American Paints with Judy Lee, TN at the Shawnee, OK show. We did a number of crosses including using one of our black hens and made lots of babies. Only 2 pullets and one cockerel made the final cut. We picked up a paint pullet from Deb S. paint program late in 2011 an used her for one round of breedings for 2011 season. The best result for type were the recessive white pullets that were produced that have anywhere from 5 black feathers on their body to none. Two have pink spotting on combs, light skin, and beak. Due to the fact they have such clear bright white feathering and come from the paint crossed on our black hen we are going to try breedings with them this 2012 with both paint & black cocks to see what they produce.
We put Kipp our black breeding cock on the three 2011 bearded paint pullets and set up the paint cock Lee on all our black hens. The paint cock on the white paint bred pullets first and than later a black cock.
The only original breeder we kept 2011 was the American Paint Cock "Lee". The non bearded american paint hens and flame were sold off. Our plan is to just produce bearded paints.
Had some great chicks we produced here winter 2011, kept 8 paint chicks of super quality from the black to paint crosses. Also kept our 2011 cockerel Sage, put him with Pearl our recessive white paint pullet and waiting for some eggs, will put him with black hens next and a black male on Pearl next. Chicks will be part of next winters program, and should have some more this summer from these other crosses. Will keep crossing back into the blacks for quality control & consistency in the program. Have sold off all the original breeders and only working with stock that has come from my breedings. I am hoping to see if I can cut down on wild colored chicks, good skin tone, type, and cleaner white & black coloring. I may at some point use a black comb white on some clean paint girls to see what happens.
